Burial

Burial is the alias of William Bevan, a London-based producer whose identity remained anonymous for years after his emergence on Hyperdub Records in 2006. His self-titled debut and the landmark album Untrue (2007) constructed a sound from fragmented garage rhythms, pitch-shifted vocal samples, rain and urban field recordings, and an overwhelming atmosphere of late-night solitude and grief. Untrue is widely regarded as one of the defining records of the 2000s, credited with shaping the aesthetic trajectory of UK bass music, hauntology, and ambient electronic music for the following decade. He continues to release sporadically on Hyperdub, typically through limited-edition EPs and singles.
