Bruce Nauman

Born on 6 December 1941, he received his BFA from the University of Wisconsin in 1964 and his MFA from UC Davis in 1966. His practice spans sculpture, neon, video, drawing, printmaking, and performance, and since the late 1960s he has been one of the central figures of American conceptual art. Early video works from 1966 to 1970 used his own body to explore the role of the artist and the nature of repetitive action. His neon work The True Artist Helps the World by Revealing Mystic Truths (1967) remains iconic. He lives near Galisteo, New Mexico.
