Brian Ruryk

Brian Ruryk is a Toronto-based guitarist and self-described trash multitasker who has been laying waste to six-stringed instruments since the early 1980s, working in noise and free improvisation. He plugged an electric guitar into his parents' stereo as a teenager to chase unusual sounds, later folding cassette recorders, dictating machines, mp3 players and assorted junk into his practice. Rather than playing notes, Ruryk sprays them, and his live shows read closer to battles than concerts. His catalogue includes Tape Concerto, There Is No God and He Is Your Creator, A View from Somewhere, It's All Over Now and COUGHS, alongside collaborative recordings such as Outside with Colin Cudmore.
