Brandon LaBelle

Born in Los Angeles on 23 October 1969, he received his MFA from CalArts and his PhD from the London Consortium, with post-doctoral research at the University of Copenhagen. His artistic and theoretical work explores sound in relation to space, community, politics, and everyday life, and he is the founding editor of Errant Bodies Press in Berlin. He is best known for the books Background Noise: Perspectives on Sound Art and Acoustic Territories: Sound Culture and Everyday Life, both central texts in sound studies. More recent publications include Sonic Agency (2018) and Acoustic Justice (2021).
