Bob Ostertag

Born in Albuquerque on 19 April 1957, he attended Oberlin College Conservatory of Music and became one of the first musicians to use a keyboard-less modular synthesizer as his primary instrument in free improvised music. He has collaborated with Anthony Braxton, John Zorn, and Fred Frith, and the Kronos Quartet premiered his composition All the Rage at Lincoln Center in 1993. A longtime political activist, he lived in El Salvador during the 1980s. He is professor emeritus of technocultural studies at UC Davis and has published seven books.
