Björn Gottstein

Born in 1967 in Aachen, Germany, he trained as a bookseller before studying musicology, German studies, and economics in Cologne. He worked for years as a freelance music journalist and critic in Berlin, contributing to publications including Neue Zeitschrift fur Musik, MusikTexte, and Frieze, and taught at TU Berlin and the Darmstadt Summer Courses for New Music. From 2015 to 2022 he served as artistic director of the Donaueschingen Musiktage, one of the most important festivals for new music in the world. He is also an editor for new music at SWR Stuttgart.
