Billy Bao

Conceived by Basque musician Mattin, Billy Bao is a Bilbao-based noise rock band built around a fictional Nigerian emigre vocalist persona — a Lagosian troubadour called William who supposedly arrived in Bilbao and fell into the local punk scene. The actual lineup features Mattin and Xabier Erkizia on guitars and Alberto Lopez on drums. Their music merges harsh, feedback-driven noise with an explicitly anti-capitalist politics. Key releases include Dialectics of Shit (Parts Unknown, 2008), MAY 08 (2009), and The Lagos Sessions (2015).
