Bernard Parmegiani

Bernard Parmegiani (1927–2013) was a French composer and key figure at the GRM (Groupe de Recherches Musicales) in Paris, where he worked from 1959 until his retirement. A student and later colleague of Pierre Schaeffer, he produced an extraordinarily rich body of electroacoustic and musique concrète compositions. Works such as De Natura Sonorum (1975) and La Création du Monde (1984) are landmarks of the form. His music is characterized by sophisticated organization of sonic objects, a refined sense of spatial placement, and deep imaginative engagement with the life of sound.
