Augusto de Campos

Augusto de Campos (b. 1931) is a Brazilian poet, translator, and critic, and one of the founders of the Noigandres group, which launched the concrete poetry movement in Brazil in the 1950s. Alongside his brother Haroldo de Campos and Décio Pignatari, he developed a poetics treating words as visual and sonic material arranged on the page.

His work extends into digital and audiovisual poetry, sound experiments, and translations of poets including Ezra Pound, e.e. cummings, and Arnaut Daniel. De Campos's collaborations with Brazilian musicians, including Caetano Veloso, helped carry concrete poetry's ideas into popular song and tropicália.
