Atom Heart
Atom Heart is one of many aliases of Uwe Schmidt, a German-born artist who has lived in Santiago de Chile since 1993. Under Atom Heart he produced minimal techno and ambient electronic music in the 1990s, releasing on Rather and Mille Plateaux. Schmidt operates across dozens of aliases — including Señor Coconut, Lassigue Bendthaus, and Lisa Carbon — each articulating different genre conventions with an ironic and satirical intent. The Señor Coconut project, rearranging Kraftwerk and other music in Latin American styles, made him a distinctive figure in discussions of electronic music, postcolonialism, and cultural translation.
