Artur Żmijewski

Artur Żmijewski (b. 1966, Warsaw) is a Polish artist and filmmaker known for confrontational video works that probe political, ethical, and social limits through staged situations and documentary methods. Trained as a sculptor at the Warsaw Academy of Fine Arts, he shifted to video and performance-based work in the 1990s, developing a practice that engages critically with disability, collective identity, violence, and political behavior. His key works include 80064 (2004), in which a concentration camp survivor has their number re-inked; Repetition (2005), a re-enactment of the Stanford Prison Experiment shown at the Venice Biennale; and Them (2007), presented at documenta 12.
