Antoine Chessex
Antoine Chessex (b. 1980, Switzerland) is a Swiss composer and saxophonist whose work engages with extreme volume, sustained tones, and the physical experience of sound as a visceral phenomenon. Based primarily in Berlin, he has developed a practice that pushes the saxophone into territories of drone, noise, and sustained sonic force, often performed at high decibels with extended techniques that transform the instrument beyond its conventional range.
His compositions and performances are conceived as total sonic environments in which the physical impact of sound on bodies and architectural spaces becomes central to the artistic experience.
