Annie Mahtani
Annie Mahtani (UK, b. 1981) is an electroacoustic composer, sound artist and performer based in Birmingham. She studied with Jonty Harrison at the University of Birmingham through to her 2008 PhD, and is now Associate Professor of Music there and co-director of BEAST, the Birmingham Electroacoustic Sound Theatre. Her acousmatic, multichannel works draw on field recording, amplifying the sonic character of environments that usually pass unheard, ranging from fixed-media pieces to live improvisation. She has been commissioned by Birmingham Contemporary Music Group, Birmingham Repertory Theatre and Rosie Kay Dance Company, and received a mention at the 2008 Bourges competition.
