Anna Lowenhaupt Tsing
Anna Lowenhaupt Tsing (b. 1952) is an American anthropologist known for her work on globalization, ecology, and the relationships between human and nonhuman life. She is the author of The Mushroom at the End of the World, which uses the global trade in matsutake mushrooms to explore how life persists and even flourishes amid capitalist ruin and environmental disturbance.
Her concept of "contamination" as a generative force, alongside her contributions to multispecies ethnography, has been influential across anthropology, environmental humanities, and contemporary art, offering frameworks for thinking about precarity, collaboration, and survival in damaged landscapes.
