Andreas Oldörp

Andreas Oldörp is a German sound and installation artist, born in 1959 in Travemünde, who studied at the Hochschule für bildende Künste Hamburg and philosophy at the University of Hamburg, with further study in Paris and at the Zhejiang Academy of Fine Arts. Working site-specifically since 1988, he builds installations that forgo electronic generators entirely, using organ pipes linked through glass air-conduction systems, or singing flames, where gas-fed burners set air columns in glass cylinders vibrating. Since 1987 he has also researched the pyrophon, a historical fire-organ principle. He has held the sound art chair at HBK Saar since 2012 and lives in Hamburg.
