Andrea Neumann
Andrea Neumann is a German musician born in Freiburg in 1968 who studied piano at the Hochschule der Künste in Berlin before developing her practice around the inside piano — a reduced instrument consisting of strings, resonance board, and metal frame, played with hands, objects, and electronics. A lighter version of the instrument was built specifically for her by Berlin piano builder Bernd Bittmann. She has collaborated closely with Annette Krebs, Axel Dörner, Burkhard Beins, and Toshimaru Nakamura, and is a member of the Phosphor ensemble, whose recording on Potlatch remains a key document of Berlin free improvisation.
