Ali Eyal
Ali Eyal (born 1994) is an Iraqi visual artist based in Los Angeles. Raised between Baghdad and Beirut, he left Iraq in 2017 and settled in the Netherlands in 2019. He earned a BFA from the Institute of Fine Arts, Baghdad, and was a fellow of Ashkal Alwan's Home Workspace Program in Beirut. Primarily a painter, Eyal works across installation, photography, text, and video to trace what he calls "the after war": residues of violence his family endured during the U.S. invasion of Iraq, refracted through memory, displacement, and shifting identity. His work has appeared in the 18th Istanbul Biennial, Made in L.A. 2025, and the Whitney Biennial, and the Hammer Museum awarded him its Mohn Award.
