Alexandre Chanoine
Born in Limoges in 1986 and based in Felletin, Creuse, Alexandre Chanoine is a French visual artist and musician whose practice centres on stone as both sculptural material and instrument. In 2010, while working in a lithography workshop, he discovered the sound produced by sanding stone surfaces against one another — an encounter that became the basis of his research into erosion, temporal scale, and acoustic gesture. He trained at the École des Beaux-Arts Nantes (DNAP, 2011) and the École Nationale Supérieure d'Art Bourges (DNSEP, 2013), and has performed across France, Belgium, Spain, and Switzerland. His work has been shown at institutions including the Museo Reina Sofía, Madrid.
