Alberto Boatto

Alberto Boatto (1930–2017) was an Italian art critic and historian, one of the most influential voices writing on contemporary art in Italy from the 1960s onward. He wrote extensively on Pop Art, helping introduce and contextualize the movement for Italian audiences, and later turned his attention to photography, the body, and new media.

A prolific essayist and teacher, Boatto contributed to major Italian newspapers and magazines and authored numerous books examining the relationship between art, mass culture, and technological change — work that shaped how generations of Italian artists and critics understood the avant-garde's engagement with everyday imagery.
