Alan Licht

Alan Licht is an American guitarist, composer, and writer based in New York whose work engages with drone, noise, rock, and sound installation. Associated with the New York experimental music scene since the early 1990s, he has released records on labels including Table of the Elements and Drag City that develop a guitar practice indebted to La Monte Young and Rhys Chatham while keeping its own distinctive voice. His installations extend this interest in sustained tone into spatial experience. As a writer, his book Sound Art: Beyond Music, Between Categories (2007) is an influential survey tracing experimental music and visual art through dozens of artists and works.
