Åke Hodell
Åke Hodell (1919–2000) was a Swedish poet, visual artist, and sound artist. A former combat pilot who survived several crashes and was taken prisoner of war, he channelled his experience of violence and military culture into radical concrete poetry and audio works. His Verbal Brainwash and Other Works (1965–1970), reissued by Fylkingen Records, documents his practice of sonic poetry — using tape manipulation, text, and montage to construct politically charged compositions that pre-figure both sound poetry and industrial music. He was a member of Fylkingen, the Swedish experimental music society, and remained active in the Stockholm avant-garde through the 1990s.
