Abul Mogard
Abul Mogard is the recording name of Guido Zen, a Rome-based composer working in analogue drone and ambient music. For years the name carried a fictional biography, a retired Serbian factory worker recreating sounds he missed after retiring; the story circulated widely before Zen eventually stepped forward as its author. Self-releasing via his own VCO Recordings from 2012, he built dense, slow-shifting pieces from Farfisa organs and a self-built modular system, issuing the debut LP Circular Forms (2015) and cassette compilation Works (2016) on Ecstatic Recordings. His music has scored fashion campaigns and film trailers and been performed at Berlin Atonal and the Centre Pompidou.
