48 Cameras

48 Cameras is an international collective founded in 1984 by Jean-Marie Mathoul, a Belgian social worker born in Huy, after encountering the spoken word recordings of William S. Burroughs. At a literary event in Liège he met UK-based writer Paul Buck, and together they formed the group. The collective operates through correspondence and internet collaboration, drawing members from Belgium, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, and beyond. Its music spans experimental, spoken word, and post-punk territory. Over more than three decades the group has released thirteen albums and performed live on only eight occasions, reflecting its distributed, non-conventional structure.
